Runner 12 is Online.

Life is a series of amazing moments, bookended by reveling in the memory of the last and anticipating the next. But some experiences are truly so impactful, so life-changing, that you want every part of it captured forever. I am at the beginning of just such an experience right now.

My name is John Hulsey. Over the next few weeks I'll share more about myself and my story, but this blog starts with a very specific announcement. I have been invited to run a Ragnar Relay in Florida on January 4th and 5th, 2013. I will be part of a team of strangers, brought together by two people with a simple idea.
What if we put together a team of people that have all been very heavy, lost that weight in a healthy way, and now want to run a 200 mile relay race to promote good health and physical fitness?

I am honored beyond description to announce that I have been asked to join just such a team. And I couldn't say yes fast enough. I have already run two Ragnar Relays (SoCal in 2011 and Del Sol in 2012), and they were truly amazing experiences. But this time, to run with eleven other people who understand the physical journey that I have lived myself over the last two years? It's fantastic.

And it gets better. We won't just be running this event for ourselves. It looks like we will be part of a documentary that details our individual journeys to the team, our coming together as one, and the race itself. There are no guarantees, of course, and the documentary may not come together as we hope. But one thing is for sure.

I am running the Ragnar Relay in Florida, and I will be Runner 12. And I intend to share every moment of this experience with anyone who wants to follow along.

This is where it starts.

This is me on Saturday, April 7th, as I sat for my first interview with the filmmakers. I had an opportunity to share a bit about my past, my weight gain over the years, and my decision in June 2010 to turn my life around. I hadn't really talked about a lot it before, and it was a pretty emotional experience.

But more than anything, it was the moment that made me realize, "wow, this is happening!"
